Trump Orders Firing of Biden-Appointed U.S. Attorneys, Citing Justice Department “Weaponization”
California – President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has directed the Justice Department to immediately terminate all remaining Biden-era U.S. attorneys, affirming that the department had been politicized like never before under the previous administration.
“We must ‘clean house’ IMMEDIATELY and restore confidence. America’s Golden Age must have a fair Justice System – THAT BEGINS TODAY,” Trump declared in a statement on Truth Social.
The Justice Department has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Biden-Appointed U.S. Attorneys Forced Out
Last week, the White House issued termination notices to multiple Biden-appointed U.S. Attorneys across the country, marking a sharp departure from past practices. Traditionally, incoming administrations request resignations rather than issuing direct terminations, according to current and former Justice Department officials.
On Monday, several Biden-appointed U.S. attorneys publicly announced their resignations, while others had already departed the government in the previous week.
Justice Department Shake-Up Under Trump
The removal of top federal prosecutors is part of a broader Justice Department overhaul under Trump’s new administration. The U.S. Attorneys, who serve as chief federal law enforcement officers in their respective districts, are typically replaced with new appointees after a presidential transition. However, Trump’s aggressive approach has raised concerns with some.
Since taking office last month, Trump has made sweeping changes within the Justice Department, with dozens of career officials resigning or being dismissed in major cities, including Washington and New York.
