Midnight (NIGHT) and Cardano: What the Crypto Crowd Is Saying in October 2026
Midnight NIGHT is one of the most talked-about tokens in the Cardano ecosystem this fall. Midnight is a privacy-focused blockchain linked to Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson, and NIGHT is its native token. After a rough first year, the token rallied in early October on a major network upgrade. Here is what the data shows and how public sentiment is shifting.

What is Midnight?
Midnight is a partner chain built to work alongside Cardano. Its focus is privacy. It uses zero-knowledge technology so that apps can prove something is true without exposing the underlying data. For example, a user could prove they meet a requirement without sharing all of their personal details.
The network uses two assets. NIGHT is the main token. DUST is a separate resource used to pay for transactions. We first covered this two-part design in our earlier piece on Hoskinson’s dual-coin setup for Midnight and DUST.
A rough start for Midnight NIGHT
NIGHT began trading in December 2025. According to KuCoin News, citing CoinGecko, it hit its all-time high of about $0.1185 on December 9, 2025.
However, the selling started soon after. Many people who received NIGHT through the "Glacier Drop" airdrop sold quickly, according to Coinpedia. As a result, the price fell sharply in the weeks after launch. KuCoin News reports that NIGHT reached a low of about $0.015 on July 20, 2026.
In addition, the project took a hit in July 2026. About 515 million NIGHT, worth roughly $13 million at the time, were stolen through a flaw in a Cardano–BNB Chain bridge run by Wanchain, KuCoin News reported.
The October rally and the v8 upgrade
Sentiment turned in late September. Midnight’s v8 upgrade opened mainnet to permissionless smart contracts. In other words, developers can now deploy private smart contracts and mint private custom tokens without a curated review step, according to CoinMarketCap.
As a result, the market reacted fast. KuCoin News reported that NIGHT traded near $0.049 on October 4, up about 91% in a week and about 125% in 30 days. That was its highest level in six months.
Usage also jumped. A TokenPost report cited by CoinMarketCap says daily transactions rose from 284 on October 1 to 26,178 on October 8. However, a spike in transactions does not prove that the upgrade alone caused it.
Where Midnight NIGHT stands now
Since that peak, though, the token has cooled. CoinMarketCap’s Midnight page showed NIGHT near $0.040 in late October. About 16.6 billion of its 24 billion tokens are in circulation, per CoinGecko data cited by KuCoin News.
The next milestone on the roadmap is v9, which would let Midnight contracts work with each other. Midnight Foundation CTO Sebastien Guillemot has said it could arrive before year-end, according to U.Today.
What the crypto crowd is saying about Midnight NIGHT
Overall, public sentiment is mixed, and it depends on who you ask.
The bullish case. Supporters point to real usage after v8. They also see privacy as a growing theme in crypto. Some traders have compared NIGHT’s potential to older privacy coins, CoinMarketCap notes.
The bearish case. Critics point to volatility and supply. The Glacier Drop claims continue to thaw in stages through December 4, 2026, per KuCoin News. As a result, more tokens could reach the market. The bridge exploit also left some holders wary.
The Cardano community split. Still, not every Cardano supporter has embraced Midnight. In a September 15 livestream, Hoskinson urged the community to support Midnight, according to Cryptonews. He warned that pushing back on large projects could discourage developers from building on Cardano.
Meanwhile, the wider crypto market was cautious. CoinMarketCap’s Fear and Greed Index read 43 out of 100 in late October, which sits on the fearful side of neutral.
What to watch next
- Smart contract activity. Do daily transactions hold up after the launch spike?
- The v9 upgrade. Composability could open the door to more complex apps.
- Token unlocks. Watch the final Glacier Drop thaw through early December.
- Cardano’s response. A warmer relationship between Midnight and the wider Cardano community could change sentiment.

The bottom line
Midnight NIGHT has gone from a rough launch to a strong fall rally on the back of its v8 upgrade. Supporters see a privacy chain finally gaining real users. Skeptics see a volatile token with more supply on the way. For now, the data supports both views, so the next few months of usage will tell the story.
